There’s an exciting new chapter opening in the North West Highlands. After years of crafting award-winning gin, rum, vodka and maturing whisky, we’re thrilled to share that Badachro Distillery is about to begin whisky production by the end of 2025. A new whisky distillery is about to be born, far from any other, and a new, unique, craft single malt whisky, distinct from any other, is about to start pouring from our traditional copper pot stills.
This marks a major milestone not just for our small distillery nestled on Scotland’s wild west coast, but for the wider whisky world. As featured in the Inverness Courier, our plans are ambitious, authentic, and deeply rooted in our Highland home.
A Return to the Highlands’ Whisky Heritage
When we founded Badachro Distillery in 2017, our goal was simple: to create truly handcrafted spirits that reflect the purity and beauty of the northwest Highlands. That vision is now expanding into whisky, bringing production back to a part of Scotland where it has been absent for generations.
We’ll be producing around 12,000 litres of new make spirit per year, filling approximately 60 casks annually small in scale but mighty in heart.
Highland Barley, Hand-Stirred Mashes
Staying true to our ethos, we’ll be sourcing malted barley from the Black Isle, ensuring our whisky is built on Highland terroir. Even our process will honour tradition our mash will be hand-stirred, not mechanically agitated, giving us direct connection to every step of the spirit’s journey.
The use of various yeasts and extended fermentation times promise a unique and authentic complexity.
We’ll be maturing the spirit in a mix of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, starting with traditional 200-litre barrels and smaller casks to create unique, characterful expressions from day one.
Whisky with a Community & Global Outlook
Our whisky isn’t just for us it’s for the people who make Badachro what it is. We plan to keep one cask reserved for community ownership, and are exploring ways to support local talent through a future Highland apprenticeship scheme.
While we continue to grow in the UK, we’re also looking outward—focusing export efforts on Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Canada, where the demand for authentic, craft Scottish spirits continues to rise.
The Only Operating Distillery on Scotland’s North-West Coast
With the next phase of our story, we’ll become the only operating whisky distillery on the north-west coast of Scotland, north of Ardnamurchan. It’s a proud position but also a responsibility to represent this remarkable landscape with integrity and care in every bottle we produce.
